Navins, corporate and individual are what give purpose and substance to the Navin Party. They have a diversity of origins and they can be found at every corner of the planet, doing every sort of activity imaginable.
In the Anglo-Celtic Isles the name is a patronymic that emerges from the ancient Gaelic/Celtic MacCnaimhin clan descendents of Cuamhin the first Clan Chief based in Leinster, Ireland who himself was descended from Cian the third Son of Olioll Olum, King of Munster around 130 A.D. The derivative "Navin" is one of many names to emerge from the MacCnaimhin clan including Navan, Niven Nevin, McNevin, McKnavin and others. According to John Navin's account the name Navin itself was first recorded in Ayrshire, Scotland and had evidently been an established name in the area since long before the Norman conquest of 1066.
Meanwhile, from Central to South East Asia where it is rooted in the Sanskrit word for new or novel implying a new venture or way of defining. In Afghanistan's Herat Province there is a small town called Navin. In the 1980s there was a political party initiated by pro-Beijing Hazaras, a minority ethnic group in Afghanistan, called Sazmani Demokratiki Navin-e-Afghanistan. Throughout the Indian sub-continent where the name is also Anglicized with the spelling Naveen, Navin is sometimes found amongst women but is primarily a man's given name. In India it is found across social strata with everyone from juvenile labourers in the Dhobi Ghats Laundry to wig makers' sons to Members of Parliament and corporate executives. Further through all of Sanskrit influenced South East Asia the name is found. In Thailand it is primarily a male name, popularly represented by famous pop singer Navin Tar, while in neighbouring Cambodia it is found to be predominantly a woman's name.
In other places it is also found to have roots of its own. In Korea where it is pronounced Nabin, as there is no "v" sound in the Korean language, it is a currently popular girls name. Further it is found in Scandinavia.
But it is through the diaspora that we truly find Navins in every corner of the planet. Some are successful corporate executives or politicians like Ashwin Navin founder and COO of BitTorrent or Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam of Mauritius, and others are just your average Navin working convenience stores in South Africa, living the life a teenage girl in Los Angeles, singing in bands or blogging from anywhere. While there are elementary schools, skating rinks, baseball fields, foundations, rock bands, and well known movie characters name Navin.
Perhaps the most inexplicable Navins known to the Navin Party are Dominga Navin and Barbola Navin Carua. In pre-independence Chile, on August 15th (Indian and Korean Independence Day) 1732, Dominga Navin, the daughter of Domingo Navin was christened in San Carlos. 1732, curiously, is the street number of the Chilean Embassy in Washington D.C.. On the other hand Barbola Navin Carua was married in the Viceroyalty of Peru on Halloween, 1645.
Navins are found in all shapes and sizes doing every manner of activity in almost every country on earth. Their story is vast, but as Navin Mahaprabu, the great Indian guru said, if we are to go out into the world meeting Navins of present day while learning about those of times past a great truth will be revealed. It is the mission of the Navin Party to see to it that that great truth is brought to light.
